Welcome to Ms. Broyles’ class!  It is an incredible honor to teach English 2, Geography and Psychology at the Denver School of the Arts.  This will be my 8th year teaching high school students, and I can’t wait to begin another stimulating year of learning.  I am excited to work with students and parents who have so many unique talents and interests here at DSA!

Allow me to introduce myself.  I am a Denver native and graduated from the International Baccalaureate Program at George Washington High School (Go Patriots!).  I completed my undergraduate studies in International Development at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England.  I completed my Masters degree in Education at the University of Colorado, Denver.  It’s been a busy decade for me, and I’m thrilled to have a home at DSA!

Parents and students, please reach out to me with questions, comments and concerns via my email at Emily_Broyles@dpsk12.org.  Email is by far the best means to contact me.

Let’s make this a great year!

My personal teaching philosophy is that all students must come to see themselves as purposeful citizens of the world.  I strive to use a global approach to my curriculum so that students come to realize their role in their local, national, and international communities.  Literature and the social sciences allow us to recognize the historical, physical, political and economic complexities facing humans in the 21st century.

I value each of my students as individuals, and I endeavor to educate “the whole child”.  I believe that every person has their own unique learning strengths and learning challenges.  As an educator, it is my job to challenge my students as learners and to develop my curriculum to support students of all learning styles.  In return, I ask that both students and parents respect me as an educator, and recognize that I have the best needs of all students at the heart of my teaching.  I know that my students will have many diverse experiences of their own to share, and I look forward to creating a classroom culture of inquisitiveness and teamwork.
